Overview
What is gemmology? How are gemstones or coloured stones different from diamonds? What are precious and semi-precious gemstones? What makes some rubies, sapphires and emeralds more expensive than diamonds? How can I differentiate between two or more red coloured stones? Are all green stones, emeralds? Confused? Fear not, our gemmology courses are a perfect balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, because we understand the gem world. Gemmology is the science of gemstones. The thorough examination of a stone using basic and advanced techniques allows a gemmologist to correctly identify the gemstone. By delving into gemmology, you will find yourself in an exciting new world of observation and investigation of beauty and science. We train you to identify gemstones using specialized instruments and studying different types of inclusions with the aid of a gemmological microscope. You will learn how to distinguish between synthetic, treated and natural gemstones (ruby, sapphire and emerald and other important varieties).
